Why your radio programme doesn’t have to come from the broadcasting centre anymore
Mike is a developer for digital brands and contents. As an audio specialist, radio broadcaster and content professional he has been active in many different positions since 1992, for example as editor-in-chief, program manager and director. On the way he made stops at bigFM, Radio Regenbogen, ENERGY and Radio 7.
„Let’s do something here!“ – Is this sentence familiar to you? Spoken by your team? Maybe even spoken by yourself?
Radio makers always have an idea, a motivation, a driving force. That’s good. No, in combination with the existent know-how, the creativity, the manpower and the drive to establish, shape and, of course, “harvest” communication, it’s downright genius!
Through usage, via value for conversation and image, through monetisation.
A bummer though: Oftentimes there are diverse, mostly internal circumstances that curb your plans.
I’m writing this completely unflinchingly, as I’m familiar with this from my own experience.
You’ve got a great brand, the urge and pressure to develop it further, to secure the business model, to adapt to the everchanging challenges and to not surrender the applause and euros to your competitors – who, from your point of view, may be much further along than you.
But what can secure the brand and the business model? What carries them into the future?
Digitalisation, you say? Yes, I say. But where do you start?
I say: with playout.
Don’t be scared – it’s just words
There are an infinite number of digitalisation missionaries with approaches and partial solutions for the playout system. Often neatly combined with an interface jungle. Or with ambitious possibilities to make the well-trodden studio environment look digital.
The sentences spoken in this context are rarely intelligible. In those conversations you’re screwed without Google.
Listener mounts? Yeah, right.
The first step to digitalisation is to stop being scared of it. My recommendation: try to understand it yourself. Don’t be scared, trust in yourself, do your thing and don’t let yourself be stopped in doing it.
What’s between you and a digital broadcasting system
For 29 years now, I’ve been familiar with broadcasting centres, radio stations, audio brands – big and small, corporations, youthfully and progressively led and almost unchanged stations from the early days of private radio.
Should digitalisation seem like an unbreachable wall for your station as well, then believe me when I say: You’re not alone.
Programme managers like to counter with the question: “With whom can I even manage to make this happen?”
The IT guys and girls have beads of sweat running down their foreheads and are worried about new interfaces and unknown systems. The motto “never touch a running system” is repeated like a mantra.
At the same time, this same department knows that investments have to be made and dreams of special budgets.
Sales management, on the other hand, is sceptical and cautious and puts it another way: “Will we even seriously profit and would it match the effort? We’ve heard that it isn’t that easy: Who is supposed to handle it – who knows the ropes?”
What now?
Who do you want to wait for? You’re pulling the strings and you have to shape the future. Or are your competitors supposed to do it?
Doing is like wanting – only more blatant
Have confidence, think of reach, of your great content and the fantastic possibilities of distribution with your team.
Don’t talk about it, don’t wait, just do it!
Where are you supposed to start? One second, please.
This is where our approach to support you, and your whole team, with your programming and marketing fantasies comes in.
To realise those fantasies by means of a solution that is as easy and straightforward as getting coffee from a coffee machine. A solution by which every “but” has already been resolved.
We believe in viewing a publishing solution in a completely new way. Not giving priority to the translation or to docking onto the current setting. We believe in having one solution, one playout system for any and every form of audio content.
Curated!
Music, packaging, service breaks, moderated and spoken content, perfect backtiming. Great transitions in maximised audio quality. Individual sound processing for each track.
For each device.
Anywhere.
100% digitally in the cloud without a classic and expensive studio setup.
No hardware investments in the scale of a small family car, no strain on the IT and audio structure, no occupancy of bandwidths, no additional manpower etc., etc., etc.
We’ve just gone and done it
At streaMonkey Studios | xStream experienced radio makers, presenters, planning editors, chiefs of music, IT and broadcasting specialists, data analysts and business field developers have joined forces. With the vision of seeing things from every angle and providing a state-of-the-art solution made in Germany.
Your programming is delivered from the same platform as your streams/IP audio, with all the same bells and whistles.
You plan and produce your channels completely independently of your location on the platform.
No matter how and for whom you publish: it’s clear and simple.
How does that sound? Personally, I think it’s the dog’s bollocks!
- No more licensing for the existing broadcasting automation
- No expensive hardware installation
- Digital is digital – 100%
- Channel generation with a flick of the wrist
- No further strain on personnel ressources
- No occupancy of bandwidths
- Integration into and compatibility with all current systems
And what does that mean for your programme? Complete focus on the content = reach = profit!
